A few alfarerias
(pottery and tile works) and vidrierias (glassworks)
sell products in local stores. Visitors crossing in
Baja at Tecate can't miss the highly visible Patio del
Sol on the east side of Calle Lázaro Cárdenas, two
blocks south of the gateway. The outdoor display
features a large selection of unglazed pottery, plus a
smaller number of decorative sculptures. |

As in Tijuana and Rosarito, several shops
in town depend on sales to U.S. residents crossing the
border for bargains on tile and other building materials. Baja-Mex-Tile,
Av. Juárez, tel. (665) 4-0204. specializes in Mexican
pavers, Mexican brick handmade roof tile, Saltillo tile,
Lincoln tile, flagstone, and ceramic tile.
The government-sponsored Centro
Artesanal, south of the railway and Rio Tecate on Mexico
3 (about 1.5 km south of Av. Juárez), houses two shops: Tecate
Handicraft Center and Artesanias Mexicanas.
Besides glassworks and pottery, the vendors offer blankets,
rugs, folk art, and other crafts from elsewhere in Northern
Mexico. Rosita's Curios, west of Calle Lázaro
Cárdenas on the south side of Av, Juárez, is a private
shop with an interesting collection of handicrafts.
