HOW TO GET THERE
There are six golf courses in the state, one in Loreto and five in Los Cabos. Loreto
is located 412 km south of Guerrero Negro through the Transpeninsular Highway; by air to
its International Airport and by sea in yatches or private touristic boats. Los Cabos is
located 992 kms south of Guerrero Negro through the Transpeninsular Highway; by air to the
Los Cabos International Airport, by private plane to the Cabo San Lucas Airfield and by
sea by touristic boats or private yaughts.
ORIGIN
In 1969 the Federal Government through FONATUR, included the state of Baja California
Sur as part of a touristic development plan. Due to their numerous natural and cultural
attractions FONATUR selected the cities of Loreto and San José del Cabo to become the
destinations of the globally projected plan. In both destinations the Master Plan included
the development of sections reserved among others, for hotels, condominiums, residential
and urban lots, recreational beaches and a golf course. The private sector built four more
golf courses in Cabo San Lucas.
DESCRIPTION
FONATUR Golf Course of San José del Cabo. It is completely integrated to the
surrounding: Desert-Sea. It was designed by the architects Mario Shjetman Danton and Pedro
Guereca with the technical advise of Joe Finger. The area is 24.5 hectares. It has 9
international category holes Par 35 (18 holes are projected). The length of the course is
3141 yards. Palmilla Golf Course . It was designed by Jack Nicklaus. It has 18
international category holes Par 72/36. The length of the course is 10,445 yards. Cabo
Real Golf Course. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. It has 18 international
category holes Par 72. The length of the course is 6,856 yards. Cabo San Lucas Country
Club Golf Course. It was designed by Roy Dye. It has 36 international category holes Par
72. The length of the course is 7,200 yards. Cabo del Sol Golf Course. It was designed by
Jack Nicklaus. It has 54 international category holes Par 72. The length of the course is
7,000 yards. In both destinations some golf tournaments take place during the year. There
are also tennis tournaments in Loreto often.
ACTIVITIES
Golf. Loreto: driving range, clubhouse with bar, restaurant, cafeteria, shop, swimming
pool, locker room, vapour and sauna bathrooms. Diving. Tennis: tennis center, clubhouse, 9
courts and 1 stadium. San José del Cabo: clubhouse, bar, restaurant terrace, tennis
courts, swimming pool and wading pool. The rest of the Los Cabos golf courses are located
in the area of Palmilla, Cabo Real, Country Club and Cabo del Sol developments.
All of them offer many high quality services. Other activities: Sports fishing,
beaches, tours by boat to the islands, etc. RECOMMENDATION. Golf enthusiasts
should visit any of the Baja California golf courses. Some of them are
considered among the most beautiful in the world.
